Phoenix, AZ. (Nov. 18, 2006) - Carlos Contreras drove quality laps throughout this weekend’s season-ending race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He gained positions and experience, while finishing unscathed after the caution-filled event.
At the start of the race Carlos radioed that the car felt tight, but the Family Dollar team decided to stay out on the track during the first caution to get a better feel for what the car was doing.
When the second caution flag came out on lap 44 the No. 14 came down pit road to take four tires, fuel, a wedge adjustment and a track bar change.
Throughout the next set of green flag laps Carlos confirmed that the car was running better and smoother in the turns.
On lap 163 there was another caution bringing the Family Dollar Dodge down pit road for four more tires, fuel and more adjustments.
"The car feels looser as the race goes on, especially in turn one," said Carlos.
For the last remaining laps Carlos drove the No. 14 to a clean 33rd place finish gaining ten positions from where he started the race.
Carlos has gotten a lot of seat time in the Busch Series this year and has learned a lot during all his races. He is eager to get more opportunities next year.
The end of a part-time season will bring a new start for Family Dollar and the No. 14 team next year. The off-season will give the team a chance to regroup and get ready for 2007.
