News Releases
FONTANA, Calif. (February 27, 2006)— Joel Kauffman started off his 2006 NASCAR Busch Series season with a 27 th-place finish in the Stater Bros. 300 at California Speedway on Saturday. The Raybestos' Rookie of the Year candidate, piloting the No. 12 Supercuts Dodge, fought a tight condition for most of the 150-lap race.
Kauffman had an eventful day from the beginning of the 300-mile race. On lap 3, when the first caution flag waved, Mark Green got loose and spun out, just touching the rear of the Supercuts Dodge. However, neither Kauffman nor Crew Chief Butch Hylton believed the damage was significant enough to hurt the car, and so the team opted not to pit.
"The No. 4 car got loose behind me and when he spun out, he tapped the back of the Supercuts Dodge," said Kauffman. "It didn't really hurt us, though. At the time, the car felt fine and the damage was minimal, so we didn't feel the need to come in and fix anything."
Early on, the car was handling decently for Kauffman except for an overheating issue. The water temperature rose to 240 early in the race and never seemed to come down, even after removing tape from the front grill. Later in the race, Kauffman reported the oil temperature at 220, which led Hylton to determine that the gauges were reading wrong.
"I was worried about the water temperature all day," said Kauffman. "Butch felt it was a faulty gauge, but I kept my eye on it. I'm just glad we didn't overheat. That's the last thing we needed."
On lap 56, during the first green flag pit stop for the No. 12 Supercuts Dodge, Kauffman pulled into his pit stall too close to the wall, which made for a longer stop than expected. The pit crew put a rubber in the right rear, which did little to help the car, so on the pit stop at lap 82, the crew took the rubber out and made further adjustments to help the tight-handling car for Kauffman.
Unfortunately, nothing seemed to help the No. 12 Supercuts Dodge and Kauffman ended up two laps down in 27th place.
"We certainly didn't accomplish what we wanted to this weekend," Kauffman said. "No matter what adjustments we made to the car, it just wouldn't handle right. Hopefully, we can figure things out and improve when we get to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks."
"The No. 12 Supercuts Dodge tested really well in Las Vegas, which is a track similar to California," said Hylton. "For some reason, the setup just wasn't working this weekend. We'll look over our notes from testing and try to figure out what went wrong this weekend before we get back to Vegas."
Kauffman will pilot the No. 12 Take Me On Vacation Dodge at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in the Telcel Motorola 200 presented by Banamex in Mexico City, Mexico this Sunday, March 5. The race begins at 2 p.m. ET and will be broadcaston FOX.

Cut tire in the closing laps takes No. 12 Supercuts car out of contention
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (February 20, 2006)— David Reutimann was on his way to piloting the No. 12 Supercuts car to a top-10 finish on Saturday in the Hershey's Kissables 300 at Daytona International Speedway when a cut tire took away any hopes of a good finish.
Starting from the 38th position, Reutimann quickly began driving the Supercuts car to the front of the field. Within 20 laps, the No. 12 car was already up to 18 th and continuing to gain ground.
"The team kept plugging away all day and they made good adjustments throughout the race," Reutimann said. "I had to run the top, but we were making good progress."
During the first round of pit stops, the Supercuts car took only minor adjustments, but had trouble with the car in front of them blocking them in. Reutimann left pit road 21 st, but again, climbed to 13th by the time the red flag was waved on lap 39.
"The guys on the team did a good job all weekend," said Crew Chief Butch Hylton. "We have the makings of a good race team. They worked well on the pit stops and were able to overcome some problems that weren't of their own making."
As the race went on, the car began to lose grip and Reutimann was having problems running on the bottom of the track, but was able to pick up positions as he ran the high line. By lap 84, the Supercuts car was in the top-10 and on lap 110, when the field was coming down to take the green flag, Reutimann continued to run tenth.
However, on lap 111, as the No. 12 car was heading into Turn 1, the right front tire was cut, sending Reutimann into the wall.
"I must've run over some debris on the frontstretch and when I got into the corner, the tire blew," said Reutimann. "It was disappointing considering how close we were to the finish and how well we had been running all day."
Reutimann finished the race in 29th.
"David kept the car off the wall and the damage that the Supercuts car sustained was minimal," said Hylton. "I'm just really proud of all the guys. They did a great job and we'll head out to California and try to improve next week."
Joel Kauffman, one of two Raybestos' Rookie of the Year candidates for FitzBradshaw Racing, will make his 2006 NASCAR Busch Series debut Saturday, Feb. 25 in the No. 12 Supercuts car in the Stater Bros. 300 at CaliforniaSpeedway in Fontana, Calif. The race will be broadcast at 3 p.m. PST on the FX Network.

Racing Into The Future
In October 2005, Olympia
Steel Buildings’ owner Arnold A. Davis joined the world of NASCAR racing by signing a two year associate sponsorship agreement with FitzBradshaw Racing. Davis -- a 42-year veteran of the steel building industry -- saw an opportunity for Olympia to make an impact in the world’s fastest growing sport.
“NASCAR fans are right in our target demographics,” said
Davis. “NASCAR enjoys one of the largest audiences in the
entire sporting world. What better venue than NASCAR to advertise Olympia
Steel Buildings?” Olympia
Steel Buildings was founded by Davis in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania
-- in sight of Pittsburgh’s Golden Triangle-- in 1973. Since
that time the company has grown to become the industry leader in
providing all steel metal buildings for agricultural, residential,
industrial and commercial use, distributing buildings across the
United States and in countries all over the world, including the
United Kingdom, Ireland, Israel, Denmark and Lithuania.
An additional benefit to the FitzBradshaw partnership
is that it not only provides Olympia with a connection with NASCAR
fans, but-- as a Pittsburgh-based company-- also provides a strong
connection with NFL fans through co-owner Terry Bradshaw. Bradshaw
was a Hall of Fame quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and co-owns
FitzBradshaw Racing with Armando and Mimi Fitz.
After signing on as a sponsor, the Olympia
Steel Buildings logo was featured on the C-Post of the No. 14 NAVY Accelerate Your
Life Dodge Charger driven by David Stremme in the October 14, 2005
Dollar General 300 Busch Series race in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Olympia was featured on the C-Post of the No. 14 car for the remainder
of the 2005 season. FitzBradshaw fielded three Dodge Chargers in
the 2005 NASCAR Busch Series.
Olympia’s sponsorship agreement includes a primary sponsorship opportunity at the Richmond International Speedway on May 5, 2006.
“The added visibility will give us an edge in a very competitive market,” Davis emphasizes. “We have already enjoyed an increase in our sales leads and product recognition since the announcement of our NASCAR sponsorship.”
Olympia launched a new website, www.olympiaracing.com, for NASCAR fans to access the latest FitzBradshaw race results, news releases and information about the team, owners, drivers and crew, as well as offer special promotions for Olympia customers and NASCAR fans alike.
